Antique Victorian Gold Long Guard Chain with Coiled Snake Slide
Antique Victorian Gold Long Guard Chain with Coiled Snake Slide
Smooth, Sinuous.
It’s true — a good chain is hard to find. We are thrilled to present this full length Victorian guard chain in a silken, dense curb link. The cherry on top is the slide ornament modeled as an adorable coiled snake set with turquoise and red gemstones for eyes.
The chain is a “closed” one, to be looped over the head, multiple turns. We are able to loop it up to 3 times (see third photo). You can also clasp the chain onto itself in a doubled configuration (see 4th photo). The clasp is of the mechanical twist variety (twist the screw and the hook hinges open and closed). Feel free to experiment with the myriad ways to wear, with or without a pendant.
Gold is yellow, on the cooler side in terms of color.
Pendant shown is not included.
Unmarked.
15k gold (chain), 14k gold (clasp), turquoise, red gemstones (not paste, likely rubies).
Dimensions and weight:
● 57 inches long total (note that the chain is closed; the 57 inches is calculated as if the chain were measured end to end)
● 2.7 mm wide
● 1.2 mm deep
● 14.2 mm long x 11.6 mm wide x 11.4mm deep (slide)
● 45.7 grams
Period: Victorian (circa 1850s)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. Note that one of the gemstone eyes appears to be a replacement (it is faceted whereas the other eye is cabochon, likely the original). The slide moves freely — it no longer has cork inside to grip the chain.
