Antique Gold and Diamond Dragon Pendant Brooch
Antique Gold and Diamond Dragon Pendant Brooch
Unique, Fierce.
Mythical creatures have always fascinated us, whether on the page or in jewelry. This jewel, from Spain, features quite an unusual beast — part eagle (head), part lion (paws), and part dragon (tail). We have no known name for this creature, but whatever it is, it is surely powerful and strong!
The jewel is sculptural, with finely wrought feather and scale details front and back. We especially appreciate that the pendant loop is formed by the tail, looping onto itself. So elegant and seamless — with no bail to detract when wearing as a brooch!
***Anecdotally attributed to Barcelona jewelry firm of Sunyer, founded in 1835. (We acquired this piece from an established dealer in Barcelona; he consulted with the current owner of Sunyer, who confirmed that this same design appeared in Sunyer’s archives).
Chain shown is not included.
