(SOLD) Antique Early 19th Century Black and White Enamel Urn Vinaigrette Pendant
Charming, Rare.
A vinaigrette, circa 1830, is finely modeled as a black and white enameled urn, with a functional hinged lid, suspended from enameled chains. The back is as beautifully detailed as the front — even the “handles” of the urn are enameled.
Do as the aristocrats did in the malodorous 1800s and insert a tiny sponge infused with a favorite perfume into the hinged compartment. Or, now in the 21st century, consider inserting a miniature scroll bearing your own sentimental message or other personal memento. We adore this worn short or long on a fine antique chain.
Gold chain shown is not included (enameled chain is part of the pendant).
Unmarked.
14k gold, enamel.
Dimensions and weight:
● 53.7 mm long (including chains); 34 mm long (just the urn)
● 24 mm wide
● 8.5 mm deep
● 3.8 grams
Period: Georgian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. There is some wear to the enamel, as to be expected for a functional vinaigrette of this age, not detracting from the beauty of the piece. There is also a loop at the top of the hinged top — at some point in the past, there may have been an additional chain attached at that juncture.
