(SOLD) Antique Victorian Heavyweight Fancy Link Long Chain with Amethyst Slide, Inscribed 1876
Luminous, Exemplary.
Victorian slide chains are abundant, but it is rare to find one of this quality and beauty. The chain is a generous full length, comprised of weighty, fancy links — anchored by a slide set with a large faceted amethyst, bordered by crisp taille d’epargné enameling. The reverse of the slide is hand engraved with a profusion of foliage and the year 1876.
We love the multitude of styling possibilities. Double, triple, with or without pendants at the dog clip. Wear the amethyst slide on display, or consider wearing it to the back of the neck, or tucked into the décolletage when an all-gold look is desired. The chain is a substantial one in scale and weight — an investment in fine jewelry 150 years ago and today.
Note: The slide’s inside corking has been mostly worn away over time; if desired, we can attempt to rebuild the corking inside by inserting tiny slivers of cork to increase the tension. In our opinion, however, this is not necessary, and we prefer the maneuverability of the slide as it is.
Marked “14”, inscribed.
14k gold, amethyst.
Dimensions and weight:
● 63 inches long/ 160 cm (note that the chain is a “closed” chain; measurement is as if chain is laid open)
● 4.8 mm wide (chain); 2.5 cm wide (slide)
● 4.2 mm deep (chain); 13.5 mm deep (slide)
● 83.4 grams
Period: Victorian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
