Beguiling love token. Once an amulet of protection, in the 18th century, the witch’s heart evolved into a a symbol of “bewitchment” by love. This late 18th century example is crowned with delicate and lively giardinetti flourishes, set with rose cut diamonds and rubies. The crown is symbolic of loyalty, and the diamonds and rubies of eternal passion. The body of the heart is tactile, paste set over light reflective foil, anchored at its center with a ruby. Crafted in silver, with gold over silver accents at the border and at the collets for the rubies.
