Antique French Etruscan Revival Amphora Pendant with Secret Compartment
Antique French Etruscan Revival Amphora Pendant with Secret Compartment
Secret, Sentimental.
We’ve a soft spot for jewelry with compartments — including vinaigrettes, lockets, vestas, scent bottles — you get the idea!
This delightful amphora pendant originated in 19th century France, paying homage to ancient Etruria. Revivalist jewelry swept through Europe in the 1800s, when jewelers such as Castellani, Giuliano, and Fontenay looked back to antiquity for inspiration.
We love the rich bloomed finish and patina, the granulation and wirework, the wearable mid-size, and especially the secret compartment. Lift the hinged top to stash a personal keepsake inside or perhaps a tiny piece of cotton saturated with a favorite perfume.
Marked with French eagle’s head and unidentified maker’s mark.
Chain shown is not included.
18k gold.
Dimensions and weight:
● 50 mm long
● 19 mm wide
● 14 mm deep
● 9.9 grams
Period: Victorian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. Light patina, normal for antique gold jewelry, is present at the bail.
