Antique Victorian Cherub Portrait Pendant Watch, with Crowned Winged Watch Pin Brooch
Antique Victorian Cherub Portrait Pendant Watch, with Crowned Winged Watch Pin Brooch
Supremacy of Love.
The most darling pendant watch with its matching pin, circa 1895. A work of art in miniature, the watch is graced with a fine polychrome enamel portrait of three rosy-cheeked, winged cherubs among fluffy clouds. Cobalt blue guilloché enamel studded with rose cut diamonds frame the portrait. The brilliant enamel continues on the reverse, including the beautiful rayed face, accented with gold Arabic numerals.
Perhaps the cherry on top? The watch is accompanied by its original pin (a rarity, as many a pair have been separated over the years) — a crowned pair of wings, set with old cut diamonds and pearls, an allusion to the supremacy of love.
Wear the watch and pin together or separately, or even pair the pin with another pendant — so many possibilities. Trombone safety clasp on the pin. Both front and back covers open.
Chain shown is not included.
Marked “K18”, Swiss Helvetia hallmark for 18k gold, “Swiss,” and a series of numbers (watch); unidentified marks (pin).
18k gold (watch and pin), 14k gold (pin fittings), enamel, diamond, pearl.
Dimensions and weight:
● 40.3 mm long (watch); 20.5 mm long (pin)
● 26.7 mm wide (watch); 42.7 mm wide (pin)
● 9.2 mm deep (watch); 10 mm deep (pin)
● 31.7 grams total (23.3 grams watch, 8.4 grams pin)
● Estimated .90 ctw diamond
Period: Victorian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. The pearls at the top show reinforcement, at the attachment points to the crown, perhaps by a clear epoxy. There are minor scratches and wear to the enamel, including two recently repaired edge chips, normal for the age and function of this piece. Note that the watch is pin-set, manually wound, and it is currently functioning (recently serviced). Sold without any guarantee or warranty on the movement.
