Antique Victorian Exceptional Diamond Snake and Amethyst Drop Pendant
Antique Victorian Exceptional Diamond Snake and Amethyst Drop Pendant
Majestic, Mesmerizing.
Feel like a queen wearing this luminous pendant dating to the late 19th century. We were immediately lovestruck — by the boldness of scale; the deeply saturated teardrop amethyst; the diamond set snake wrapped around the amethyst, its body ingeniously forming a diamond halo. We are certain we will never find another.
Suspend this from a silk cord or a gold or silver chain. The amethyst is deep and dimensional, nestling naturally at the décolletage. Imagine how this would have glowed in candlelight!
Once the gemstone of monarchs and cardinals, amethyst is the birthstone of February, and “dissipates evil thoughts and quickens the intelligence” (Leonardo Da Vinci).
A worthy, one-of-a kind addition to any antique jewelry collection. (Bonus: the diamond fleur-de-lis bail is removable, so wear it with your other antique pendants)!
Chain shown is not included.
Unmarked.
14k/15k gold, silver, diamond, green gemstones (untested) at the eyes. (Diamonds set in silver on top of gold, as was the practice at the time).
Dimensions and weight:
● 73.4 mm long (including bail)
● 22.6 mm wide
● 14 mm deep (deepest point)
● 61 ct amethyst, 3 ctw diamond (rose cuts on the snake and old mine cuts on the bail)
● Diamonds are of H-I colors and mixed clarities (VS - SI)
● 21.4 grams
Period: Victorian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. Two diamonds are replacements — one at the side of the snake’s “neck” and the other at the tip of the amethyst, behind the “head” and “tail”of the snake (neither readily discernible).
*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
