(SOLD) Antique Victorian Diamond Flower Brooch/Pendant

A wild rose, in glittering diamonds.

The Victorians loved naturalistic jewels, and this is a fine example of a floral spray brooch, originating from Vienna, circa 1880. A large, cushion old mine cut diamond of 1.4 to 1.5 carats dazzles at the center of the single flowerhead — a dog rose — surrounded by sculpted petals set with 82 additional white old mine cut diamonds. Notice how the edges of the petals curl up ever so slightly, revealing glimpses of the undersides, also studded with diamonds. The tender buds emerging are rose cut diamonds. And are those rose hips we see?

Best of all? The brooch is convertible, perhaps once part of a larger jewel such as a tiara, whose component parts would be attached to other fittings to be worn as pendants, rings, bracelets, and brooches. Remove the brooch fitting from the floral spray via the screw mechanism. The flowerhead is also detachable. We have custom-crafted a bail that can be attached to the flowerhead or to the spray via the screw mechanism. In all, wear this jewel as a floral spray brooch, a flowerhead pendant, or a floral spray pendant. Experiment. This scintillating beauty should be worn as much as possible!

Marked with Austro-Hungarian fox head in use from 1872 to 1922 for gold of 580/1000 fineness, with “A” for Vienna, and partially rubbed master’s mark of “FK”.

14k gold, silver, diamond.
