(SOLD) Antique Spanish Gold Triple Crescent "Arracadas" Earrings (from Salamanca)
Powerful, Female.
These grand scale, triple crescent “arracadas” earrings are, in a word, magnificent.
These are a pristine example of Spanish regional earrings traditionally worn by the women in Salamanca and other areas. This particular pair is especially fine, wrought on a large scale, and intricately embellished with filigree — a true, seldom found treasure.
The general shape is a hoop, but look closely to see that the body is comprised of three crescent shapes — the top curvature, the articulated crescent under that, and the curvature at the base. The moon is a symbol closely associated with the power of the feminine — including wisdom, transformation, and fertility.
These are a personal favorite find of ours —and to wear them is to feel instantly more alluring and empowered.
For those who wish to read more about this kind of earrings, see pages 183-86 of https://issuu.com/bibliotecavirtualextremena/docs/312_losorives_.
Marked with presumed maker’s marks (worn and unidentified) at the earring wires.
18k gold.
Dimensions and weight:
● 49 mm long (including earring wire)
● 35.2 mm wide
● 7.4 mm deep (at deepest point — the ball at the earring wire)
● 20.6 grams (total)
Period: Late 19th/Early 20th Century
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. Note that the closures are “back to front”, with a tiny hook that passes through the back of the ear lobe to the front. The hook is then latched through a loop at the front of the earring.
*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
