(SOLD) Antique French Cherub Brooch with Diamond, Pearl, and Guilloché Enamel

$0.00
Sold

Crafted on the cusp of the 19th and 20th centuries, between the old and new, this brooch revives motifs from the courtly age of Louis XVI — with swagged garlands, bows, roses, and, here, a cherub accompanied by a lute, book, horn, and tambourine.

The cherub is modeled in gold, set on a cornflower blue plaque of guilloché enamel, framed by rose cut diamonds mounted in platinum. A white diamond and pearl drop further enliven this sculptural piece from Belle Époque France, an era of peace, prosperity, beauty, and art. Richly detailed, even on the reverse. Wear as a brooch or pin this on a ribbon or cord to wear as a pendant.

Note: The tiniest sliver of enamel is not present at a spot of the central plaque where it meets the bezel at 11 o’clock, visible only up close at a particular angle, possibly made this way.

Chain shown is not included. Shop the chain here.

Marked with French eagle’s head and a master’s mark.

18k gold, platinum, enamel, diamond, pearl.

Dimensions and weight:

● 47.3 mm long

●      41.3 mm wide

●      9.5 mm deep (including pin)

●      12.5 grams

●  3 mm diameter on the central diamond

Period: Victorian/Edwardian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
