Antique Georgian Gold and Carnelian Day to Night Convertible Earrings
Colorful, Classical.
These Georgian carnelian and gold earrings, circa 1820/30, are rich and dramatic. We absolutely adore the combination of orange-y carnelian and high karat gold.
A top faceted carnelian bead is capped in gold and joined to a gold station embellished with a rosette and acanthus leaves, which in turn suspends a faceted teardrop of carnelian, also capped in gold.
These convertible earrings are removable to 3 parts — top, middle, bottom — to be worn in various configurations, including the top alone, the top and bottom together for a “top and drop” dangle, and of course all three together for the most dramatic impact. We, for one, would wear these long and swingy — always!
Please note that the closure is back to front, characteristic of early earrings.
18k gold, carnelian.
Dimensions and weight:
● 65 mm long (including earring wire)
● 10.7 mm wide
● 15 mm deep
● 15.5 grams total
Period: Georgian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age commensurate wear may be present. Upon the closest of examinations, we observe a careful gold repair at the top of one of the bottom dangle, near the loop — in our opinion, discreet and well done, and mentioned for completeness.
*For deliveries outside the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
