(SOLD) Antique Georgian Cupid Cameo Earrings
Surrounded by love — or at least Cupid!
Two artistically and finely carved shell cameo plaques are set in beaded gold bezels, each with classical scenes of adorable Cupid, god of love. One depicts Cupid and Psyche (love and soul) and the other, Cupid and Bacchus (love and wine). How perfect!
The cameos are exquisitely detailed, masterfully carved, likely in Italy, more than 200 years ago. As beautiful as the carvings are, the gold work also merits attention; notice that the gold beads are graduated, and there is a rhythmic pattern, with two open spaces at each “corner”.
We believe that these cameos were once part of a larger Georgian jewel circa 1820 — likely a necklace comprised of several similar plaques connected by gold chain. We will never know for sure, but we do know that these miniature works of wearable art will draw attention to your beautiful face.
18k gold, shell.
Dimensions and weight:
● 31 mm long (including earring wire)
● 29.5 mm wide
● 4 mm deep (varies, due to curvature of the shells)
● 8.2 grams
Period: Georgian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. We recommend wearing these with an earring back or stopper through each wire, to prevent inadvertent loss.
*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
