Antique French Georgian/Early Victorian Gothic Revival Carnelian and Gold Bracelet
Antique French Georgian/Early Victorian Gothic Revival Carnelian and Gold Bracelet
Romantic, Luxurious.
This dramatic bracelet comes from France, circa 1830s, when romantic historicism looked back to the Middle Ages and Renaissance for inspiration.
Designed with Gothic-inspired elements, we see echoes of the magnificent wrought ironwork gates in a soaring Gothic cathedral. Look again, and the gold stations recall the shapes of medieval maces and stylized fleur-de-lis. Ten panels of hand-carved, gently faceted, scrumptiously rich carnelians beautifully complement the goldwork. These semi-translucent gemstones positively glow, retaining their high polish even after more than 180 years. In a word — Spectacular.
Clasp closes securely.
Marked with French ram’s head (in use from 1819 to 1838) on the bracelet and eagle’s head on the clasp (single frame, in use from 1838 to 1847).
18k gold, carnelian.
