(SOLD) Antique French Gold Mixed Fancy Filigree Link Sautoir
(SOLD) Antique French Gold Mixed Fancy Filigree Link Sautoir
Chic, Elegant.
A beautiful French long chain with mixed filigree links — classic olive shaped links interspersed in a rhythmic pattern with larger, curvy, stylized links.
The sautoir is “closed”, slipping on over the head, and is luxuriously long enough to wrap up to three times. Use the hanging spring ring to suspend a favorite pendant or to clasp back on to the chain when wrapped, keeping the lengths from sliding.
We think a French filigree sautoir is a foundational piece in a chain wardrobe — the airy, scrolling links a lovely contrast to the curb, the rolo, the mariner, and the paperclip chains that may already reside in the jewelry box.
Pendant shown is not included.
Marked with horse’s head (in use until 1919) on the chain. See note below.
18k gold.
Dimensions and weight:
● 59 inches/150 cm long
● Large links are 20 mm long x 10 mm wide
● .9 mm deep
● 38.2 grams
Period: Victorian/Edwardian (circa 1900).
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age commensurate wear may be present. Note that the spring ring may be an antique replacement (marked with a French combined boar’s head/eagle’s head hallmark used for items of both gold and silver, but this chain and clasp are all 18k gold — and the chain is marked with the horse’s head for 18k gold).
