Antique French Diamond Rooster Brooch, with Ruby Eye

Antique French Diamond Rooster Brooch, with Ruby Eye
Courage, Hope.
A stunning example of late 19th-century French craftsmanship, this antique rooster brooch is set with antique rose-cut diamonds and a vivid ruby cabochon eye.
The rooster is masterfully crafted in silver over gold, with gold used in artful touches at the beak and feet. There is tremendous movement and dimension — see how the feathers overlap, the head is ever so slightly raised, the beak open as if in mid-call, and the feet poised as if in motion. More than 130 antique rose cut diamonds of varying sizes are closely set, for a sparkle and shimmer that is definitively old world. While many period rooster brooches incorporated colored gemstones in the plumage, an all-diamond specimen is particularly rare, making this piece especially covetable and collectible.
The rooster is an age-old symbol among many societies, representing courage, vigilance, confidence, resilience, and new beginnings — so powerful and talismanic. The rooster is also the 10th sign of the Chinese zodiac and a symbol of France. Whatever significance you may attribute to this rooster, it will be a beautiful, statement adornment with myriad possibilities for incorporating into your wardrobe.
