Antique/Early Vintage French Egyptian Revival Pharaoh Gold Cameo Signet Ring
Antique/Early Vintage French Egyptian Revival Pharaoh Gold Cameo Signet Ring
Egyptomania was a recurring phenomenon throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, commencing roughly with the Napoleonic campaigns in Egypt and sustained by continued archeological excavations, including the discovery in 1922 of the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
(We personally recall the frenzied interest surrounding the tour of the treasures of King Tut in the 1970s).
Our signet ring pays homage to Ancient Egypt, with a high relief cameo in gold of a pharaoh in profile. Note the details of the pharaoh’s headdress, symbolic of the ruler’s power, complete with the striped cloth and surmounting cobra. We can’t help but think of Queen Cleopatra, whose contemporary image, found on an artifact from 50 B.C, quite resembles our pharaoh. See Hulton Archive/Getty Images at https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/circa-50-bc-cleopatra-queen-of-egypt-the-last-and-most-news-photo/51244057). We see the same enigmatic smile and full cheeks!
This ring looks so chic on the pointer finger, and we think it’s great on her, him, or them.
