Antique Early 20th Century Diamond and Pearl Question Mark Hinged Gold Bangle
Antique Early 20th Century Diamond and Pearl Question Mark Hinged Gold Bangle
Mystery, Possibility.
In the early years of the 20th century, the question mark was a popular motif in jewelry. Its curving shape was characteristically Art Nouveau, and it playfully conveyed mystery and possibility.
We have seen this motif on stick pins, pendants, and rings, but this is the first time we have found it on a bangle. We find this one especially desirable for the large diamond and pearl punctuation set upon a minimalist knife edged bangle — the question mark seemingly floats upon the wrist.
Wear this, and admiration and conversation will ensue.
Gold is yellow, with a rosy hue. Bangle is hinged. Two safety figure 8 latches are present.
Shown on a 6 inch wrist.
Unmarked.
14k gold, diamond, pearl.
Dimensions and weight:
● 43.6 mm long x 54 mm wide (inside diameters)
● 2.5 mm wide at the knife edge bangle
● 3.0 mm deep at the knife edge bangle
● 1.3 ctw diamond (largest diamond is approximately .45 ct)/I-J color largest stone; H-I colors on the others; VS, SI, and I clarities.
● 14.1 grams
Period: Edwardian (ca. 1900-10)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. To note: we observe under 10x magnification a chip on one of the smaller diamonds (at 11 o’clock) near a prong (the I clarify); in our opinion, this is acceptable antique wear and does not detract from the desirability of this scarce piece.
*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
