(SOLD) Transformed Antique Spanish Gold, Emerald, and Paste “Flower Pot”/Giardinetti Pendant Earrings
(SOLD) Transformed Antique Spanish Gold, Emerald, and Paste “Flower Pot”/Giardinetti Pendant Earrings
Renewed, Transformed.
An 18th century Spanish earring had lost its mate, and we found the singleton sold as a pendant. We immediately saw the possibilities to transform the earring back into a pair — by careful re-arrangement and masterful re-creation of a component.
The result is this unique jewel, and we are in love! The top 2 parts of these 3 part articulated earrings form a “flower pot” — so “giardinetti” and of the period. Suspended below are pendant drops (once the top and bottom of the original earring). Notice that the drops are differently shaped, slightly mismatched — sisters, not twins! The look is romantic, yet streamlined, vibrant, and so wearable.
We think these earrings pay respectful homage to the 18th century original, yet are beautiful and wonderful in their own right. Examples of the type of earring similar to the original can be seen at pages 55 and 63 of “Earrings,” by Daniela Mascetti and Amanda Triossi.
Unmarked.
At least 14k gold, emerald, paste (the smaller gemstones are emeralds; of the four larger gemstones, one is an emerald and three are pastes).
Dimensions and weight:
● 46 mm long (including wire)
● 15.7 mm wide
● 7.9-8.3 mm deep
● 7.6 grams (total)
Period: Georgian/Contemporary (wires and one central component are contemporary).
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
*For deliveries outside the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
