(SOLD) Estate Helen Woodhull Cupid and Dolphin Intaglio Ring

$3,300.00
Sold

Electrifying, Bold.

The motif of Eros or Cupid riding a dolphin is an allegory of love, dating to ancient Greece and Rome, often seen in decorative arts. Here, we have Eros playing a double flute, astride a dolphin gamboling in the sea, with a fish swimming below. As charming as the scene is, the star is the lapis — a vivd, electrifying blue with golden flecks. The gemstone is set off to perfection in its chunky high karat gold setting. A highly desirable and wearable ring, especially for collectors of designer Helen Woodhull (1940 -2005), known for her modern jewels inspired by the ancient world. We adore this worn on the pinky.

Marked for Helen Woodhull, 1986, 18k.

18k gold, lapis.

Dimensions and weight:

●       14.5 mm long x 18.5 mm wide (central plaque)

●       8.8 mm tapering to 4.9 mm wide on shank

● 3.9 mm deep to 2.2 mm deep

●       Ring size 5 US (may fit smaller, due to chunkiness of shank); our jeweler advises against sizing

●       14.2 grams

Period: 1986

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
