(SOLD) Antique Early Victorian French "Swan" Wax Seal Fob Pendant
(SOLD) Antique Early Victorian French "Swan" Wax Seal Fob Pendant
We are certain we will never find another.
A bloodstone intaglio of a hound and the name/word “Swan” is mounted in gold, further surrounded by a metal (possibly a darkened bronze) frame with serrated edging. The top of the seal fob is a wonderful, three-dimensional scalloped, petal-like design of engraved gold with black enamel accents. Circa 1840s.
Love this pendant purely for its unique beauty, or treasure it for what is signifies. Swan is a surname, or a majestic bird known for mating for life, or a person of unusual beauty and grace. Of course, one can swan about, wearing this special pendant on a long antique gold chain to draw admiring looks.
Marked with French eagle’s head and partially obscured maker’s mark.
18k gold, bloodstone, enamel, metal (unidentified).
Dimensions and weight:
● 23 mm tall
● 26.8 mm long x 24.2 mm wide (the seal)
● 12.5 grams
Period: Victorian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. Some enamel loss, but nothing to detract from beauty or desirability, in our opinion. Note also that the first photograph is reversed, to show better the writing (the actual writing is in reverse, as seen on the second and third photographs).
*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
