This French locket, circa 1900, is set with two panes of faceted-edge glass — bordered by a gold frame embellished with a Neoclassical bound reed motif. Lockets of this type are more commonly round. We appreciate that this one is a square, suspended from a corner — for an especially attractive diamond shaped locket.

The frame ingeniously screws open, and a personal memento can be inserted between the glass panels as desired. We prefer, however, to wear this locket as shown, highlighting its streamlined elegance.

Beautiful patina on the gold.
