Antique Victorian Gold and Enamel Portrait of a Lady Locket
Antique Victorian Gold and Enamel Portrait of a Lady Locket
Coquettish, Artistic.
A portrait of a lady in Georgian-era dress is exquisitely and sensitively rendered in polychrome enamel, in this substantially sized locket, circa 1870. Our lady has her head ever so slightly tilted and her chin tucked in. One would think she is shy, but her large blue eyes are gazing directly at her admirer. All details are crisp, down to the hair strokes. As always, we love finding jewelry wearing jewelry — and she is wearing diamonds at her throat, ears, and coiffure!
The locket opens and closes securely, and both rims and covers are present. The back displays an empty cartouche, ready for your own personalization.
This is one of the prettiest examples of this kind of locket we have encountered.
Chains shown are not included.
Marked with what are likely gold hallmark and maker’s mark (partially rubbed, undeciphered),
18k gold, diamond, enamel.
Dimensions and weight:
● 5.2 cm long
● 3 cm wide
● 8.8 mm deep
● 18.5 grams (total — including rims and covers)
Period: Victorian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
