(SOLD) Antique 18th Century Portuguese Chrysoberyl Slide/Pendant
A ribbon of chrysoberyl, tied in a bow.
This splendid chrysoberyl bow slide/pendant comes to us from 18th century Portugal. The chrysoberyl are a brilliant, gorgeous pale green, set in silver, embellished with gold beaded trim characteristic of Portuguese jewels from the last quarter of the 18th century.
We believe this was once part of a grand, larger jewel. Today, it is a supremely wearable Georgian-era jewel. The back has been fitted at some later date with the two hook fittings. More versatile than closed loops, the hooks allow the option of threading a chain or ribbon through, or looping the open ends of a chain onto each hook. Better still, multi-task this bow as a brooch by suspending it from a gold safety pin.
We adore this Portuguese bow. So fresh, feminine, and wearable — at nearly 250 years of age!
Chains shown not included.
Unmarked.
18k gold, silver, chrysoberyl.
Dimensions and weight:
● 29 mm long
● 26.6 wide
● 7.5 mm deep
● 9.2 grams
Period: Georgian (hook fittings added more recently)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
*For deliveries outside the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
