(SOLD) Antique Carved Moonstone Cameo Drop Pendant of Egyptian Pharaoh

$2,250.00
Sold

For the lovers and collectors of Egyptian motifs, cameos, and carved moonstones — we were so excited to discover this luminous glowy moonstone portrait cameo — of a pharaoh (or pharaohess). We have seen many “man in the moon” and baby in bonnets carved from moonstone, but this is the first Egyptian pharaoh we have found.

We feel major Egyptian Revival vibes, but we believe this has Masonic origins (likely Shriners), based on the engraving on the reverse referring to “Mecca,” which was the name of the Shriners’ first “temple,” founded in New York City in 1872.

We adore the sculptural high relief carving and the white enamel stripe detailing to the nemes headdress. The bail is a generous one — more of a slide. Fabulous on a substantial Victorian chain, such as the one shown (not included) or a gas pipe type collar.

Unmarked. Engraving on the reverse.

14k gold, moonstone, enamel. Gold is yellow, with a mellow rosy touch (lovely color match to antique gold chains).

Dimensions and weight:

● 44 mm long

● 20 mm wide

● 13 mm deep

● 8.5 grams

Period: Edwardian to as late as Art Deco era.

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. There is a minute edge chip at 7 o’clock on the cameo —not noticeable/structural nor detracting from beauty/integrity.

*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
