(SOLD) Antique Edwardian Sterling Silver Lucky Bean Vesta/Locket

$750.00

The bean — long a talisman for good luck and a symbol of new beginnings and endurance.

The Victorians and Edwardians adored bean charms, well before the more recent designer bean pendants. Here we have a marvelously tactile, extra-large bean, crafted in sterling silver, circa 1919. The silver is wonderfully velvety from 100 years of use — perhaps someone appreciated this as a “worry stone”! We also can’t help but think that, in historical context, this symbol had particular sentimental value following the end of World War I.

Originally a vesta, and still functional as such, this is now supremely wearable as a statement locket. Keep a love note or other personal memento inside the compartment.

Chain shown is not included.

Marked with full UK hallmarks for sterling silver, Birmingham, 1919, and with maker’s mark.

Dimensions and weight:

● 55 mm long

● 35.5 mm wide (not including loop)

● 12 mm deep

● 27.8 grams

Period: Edwardian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.

*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
