(SOLD) Antique Edwardian Large Round Locket, by Carter, Howe & Co.

Sale Price:$800.00 Original Price:$1,200.00
Sold

A classic round locket, circa 1906, on a large scale, from the venerable firm of Carter, Howe & Co. (later known as Carter, Gough & Co.) of Newark, New Jersey, the capital of the American fine jewelry industry at the time.

The locket is smooth and tactile in the hand, its surface on one side engraved by an artistic hand with a swirling monogram. The other side is unadorned, highlighting the beauty of the original, rich, bloomed finish. Display the smooth or engraved side, as the mood strikes. Another engraving is hidden inside — May 12, 1906., a Saturday 115+ years ago, surely marking a sentimental day. The locket retains its original rim on one side, ready for your personal memento, and opens and closes securely.

A wonderful example of the high quality of American jewelry in the early 20th century.

Chain shown is not included (please contact us to inquire).

Marked for Carter, Howe & Co. and 14k.

14 gold.

Dimensions and weight:

●       33.7 mm diameter (without bail); 42.8 mm long (including bail)

●       5.4 mm deep

●     12.3 grams

Period: Edwardian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
