Rare, Dramatic.

The heart pounds, the pulse quickens. Finding a large scale, substantial, longer-length Victorian book chain complete with the dropper chain is always exciting, but downright thrilling when the example is as stunning as this one. Elongated double diamond shaped and etched plaques evoke an argyle pattern and the romance of the Scottish Highlands.

A soft rosy gold on the diamond plaques is contrasted with the rich yellow gold of the links. Two large bolt rings are removable and can accommodate lockets, pendants, and charms. (Experiment with using these bolt rings with other chains and charms when not wearing the book chain). Choose to wear the dropper chain in the alluring “Y” formation, to the side, or connect it to the primary chain for added length.

While this chain can be accompanied by a locket or other pendant for a knock-out look, we think this beauty is special enough to stand alone. An outstanding book chain, circa 1880 — larger, heavier and unlike any other we have seen.

French Victorian Locket shown is not included.

Unmarked.

14k gold.

Dimensions and weight:

●       61 cm/24 inches long (total, including bolt rings and dropper chain); 54.6 cm/21.5 inches on the primary chain only

●  12.5 mm wide

●  6.5 mm deep

● 17 mm and 15 mm outside diameter on the two bolt rings

●       56 grams

Period: Victorian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. Note that upon close inspection, there is one diamond shaped plaque missing from one link at one end of the primary chain. It is not readily discernible as each link has two diamond plaques, and there are 37 diamond shaped plaques in total. It is not visible when the clasp is worn to the back. At buyer’s option, we can have our jeweler remove the link. Please contact us to discuss this option. In our opinion, this minor deficiency does not detract from the beauty or rarity of this necklace.
