Antique Early Victorian Gold Magnifying Pendant, With Folding Handle
Enlightening, OOAK.
We are constantly on the hunt for unique and beautiful pieces — not for everyone, but for the other old souls who fall in love as definitively as we do.
This gorgeous pendant is that special, rare find — a frosty, faceted cylinder is wrapped in a Gothic Revival rich gold detailing. The surprise/secret? The pendant is a meticulously crafted magnifier — run the concave end over an image or text to view it magnified at the other end! A handle/bail folds in and out as needed.
Not quite a quizzer or lorgnette, but a rather cool and chic cousin. Surely one of a kind and a compliment magnet.
Absolutely stunning on a long period chain (especially a filigree chain) — perhaps wrapped twice so that the precious pendant sits protected, close to the heart, but can be pulled out on the chain when deployment is desired!
Likely English in origin.
15k gold, faceted magnifying glass lens.
Dimensions and weight:
● 45.4 mm long (bail unfolded)/ 24 mm long (bail folded)
● 46.8 mm wide
● 18 mm deep
● 39.5 grams
Period: Early Victorian (1840s)
Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
