(SOLD) Antique Victorian Egyptian Revival "Eternal Renewal" Scarab Intaglio Talisman

(SOLD) Antique Victorian Egyptian Revival "Eternal Renewal" Scarab Intaglio Talisman
Eternal Rebirth and Renewal.
The Ancient Egyptians believed in the scarab as a symbol of eternal renewal. They associated the scarab with the sun god, who daily rolled the sun across the sky, into the land of the dead, then once rising into the land of the living.
The centerpiece of this talismanic necklace is a Victorian Egyptian revival winged scarab, circa 1870, with the body of the scarab carved of agate, set upon a central pin to swivel. On the reverse of the scarab is an intaglio of the Bennu bird, another Egyptian symbol of rebirth. The wings, modeled in high karat gold, are so detailed, with each feather visible. A contemporary Italian made chain has been added to complete this powerful amulet of personal renewal.
Not marked.
18k gold, agate, metal (on the pin).
Dimensions and weight:
● 45 mm wide (scarab wingspan)
● 13 mm long (scarab)
● 18.5 inches long wearable length (adjustable at 16 inches)
● 7.9 grams
Period: Victorian (scarab); Contemporary (chain)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate and age-commensurate wear may be present. Traces of soft solder at the former brooch pin connection on the reverse, not affecting the beauty of the piece.
