(SOLD) Antique French Augis Love Medallion Pendant, With Laurel Border
This is a particularly covetable Augis love medallion. It is one of the earlier ones, circa 1920s/30s, with the sought after floral and laurel garland border. It is an ideal size for daily wear — large enough to be seen and admired, but small enough to be able to cluster and layer with other personal talismans. A beautiful, original patina is present.
This would be the perfect addition to a sentimental charm neck stack. We also love it solo, front and center, and it happens to look great with one of our favorite chains in the shop.
The medallion’s sentimental message is expressed in the form of a rebus, inspired by the 1889 poem by Rosemonde Gérard to her husband, Edmond Rostang, author of "Cyrano de Bergerac”:
Car, vois-tu, chaque jour je t’aime davantage,
Aujourd’hui plus qu’hier et bien moins que demain.
(Translated: For, you see, each day I love you more,
Today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow).
Chain shown not included.
Marked “A.A.” on the face, rubbed maker’s mark and French eagle’s head on loop, “Deposé” on the back.
18k gold, diamond, ruby (presumed synthetic).
Dimensions and weight:
● 26.9 mm long (including loop and bail)
● 18 mm diameter
● 1.8 mm deep (deepest point)
● 3.8 grams
Period: 20th century (circa 1920s/30s)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
